16th Street is delighted to launch a unique 12-week intensive program providing professional musical theatre performers with enhanced acting techniques to spearhead their careers into leading roles in musical theatre.

Application & audition update for the Professional Postgraduate Program: Acting in Musical Theatre due to scheduling with the lead program teachers to ensure they have enough time to review the audition material and provide the ensemble with ample time for preparation we will be moving the closing date for applications to Friday the 11th March 2022. 

 

Course Outline


  • Intensive scene work spanning from the Golden Age of Broadway to contemporary international musical theatre.
  • Building a personalised song repertoire collection that best represents you in the casting room.
  • Specialised dialect coaching.
  • Sophisticated character creation techniques based on myths and archetypes.
  • Exposure to the best in the industry in the form of mentorships and seminars with casting directors; established national and international artists and creatives.


Course Outcomes


  • All participants will finish the program with: 2 monologues, 1 classical and 1 contemporary.
  • An exemplary RP and standard American accent.
  • 2 Classic Broadway musical theatre songs, 2 Contemporary international musical theatre songs, 2 Australian musical theatre songs and 2 Pop/Rock songs.
  • Advanced vocal technique in musicality, style and tone.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the art form’s history.


Leading Professionals


James Millar: International Musical Theatre Coach and Artist. A recipient of three Green Room Awards, a Sydney Critics Award and the Helpmann Award for best leading actor in a musical.

Iain Sinclair:Mainstage Theatre Director, Dramaturg and Story Specialist. A recipient of the 2020 Green Room Award for best director, five-time Sydney theatre award winner, winner of the Stuart Wagstaff award for outstanding direction and ex-chair of the NSW Premiers Literary Award for playwriting.

 

Application Process


Musical Theatre Performers must submit an online application and submit a self-tape of one monologue (any genre) and one musical theatre song. Auditon to be submitted as a link, either in the application or via email. 

Auditions must be submitted by 11 March 2022 to be considered. Early offers will be made.
